Artistic Development
"Dear art lovers and collectors,
Please take a moment to browse my recently updated website and prepare to be surprised!
I was born and raised in Berlin. Interestingly, I received my first painting and drawing lessons from the expressionist Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. As a young boy, I was a guest in his studio at the Brücke Museum—my art teacher was a friend of his. I can still remember the quiet, serious but kind gentleman who introduced us to painting. Later, in the 1980s and 1990s, I studied at Indiana University, U.S.A. and Columbia University in New York. I fondly remember my forays through the galleries in New York.
After returning to Germany, I later met the well-known art educator Herdin Radtke and, through him, the art of Salvadore Dali. This may explain my affinity for expressionism and surrealism. In addition to my painting, I also enjoy curating exhibitions. If you are interested, I cordially invite you to the exhibition in Krefeld in September.
In my work, I explore the current concept of art and how it has changed recently. I will soon publish a longer article on this topic, as well as on my own artistic ideas, which you can also read on my art blog.
The Gallery page presents a selection of my current works. Unless otherwise noted, they are available for purchase. If you are interested, simply go to the Contact page and write to me. You can also subscribe to my newsletter there. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of traffic on my site, I cannot rule out the possibility that one or more of the works may already have been sold. However, I will endeavor to update the site regularly." Frank Spillecke
Berlin artist Frank Spillecke works as a painter and illustrator. His works straddle the boundary between abstract and figurative art. He uses a wide variety of materials to add creative accents, including oil and acrylic paints, pastels, charcoal, red chalk, and watercolors.
A characteristic feature of his art is his attempt to activate substrates and backgrounds, e.g. with liquefied plastics, and to incorporate them into the work.
In his art, he uses a symbolistic vocabulary, often enriched with expressive and surrealistic traces.
His works are represented in numerous collections. He is a member of various artists' associations.
Recently, due to the many changes taking place around the world, his art has become more political, without, however, seeking to lecture the viewer. He wants to involve the viewers in the work and encourage them to develop their own thoughts and feelings.
He is also active as a curator and publisher.
